Electric mobility: TotalEnergies and Aéroports de Lyon install over 800 electric charge points in parking lots at Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport
Lyon – March 21, 2024 – TotalEnergies has won Aéroports de Lyon’s call for tenders to install, operate and maintain more than 800 electric vehicle charge points spread throughout the airport’s parking lots. All charge points will be powered using renewable electricity, certified via guarantees of origin. The first installations are scheduled for completion by end-2024.
The project contributes toward the objective of France’s mobility planning law, which sets January 1, 2025 as the date on which existing parking lots must be equipped with electric charge points. It also supports growth in the number of electric vehicles on the road in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Under the 15-year contract, TotalEnergies will offer three types of charging solutions to meet the diverse needs of professional and private customers, at the Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport and across the region:
- 770 slow charge points (3.7–7 kVA);
- 28 rapid charge points (50 kW);
- 50 high-power charge points (200–300 kW).
Around 80 of these charge points will be specifically for the use of people who work at the airport. In addition, in order to more widely share the benefits of the decarbonization solutions implemented by VINCI Airports at Lyon airport, non-airport users will have access to a high-power charging site at the exit of the A432 motorway and to high-power charge points in the airport’s northern and southern waiting areas.
“We’re proud to be helping the Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport deploy these charging solutions, which facilitate the transition to electric mobility. By installing more than 800 charge points, TotalEnergies and Aéroports de Lyon will be able to meet the needs of airport workers and visitors – both private and professional – with everything from slow to high-power charging options,” said Marie Djordjian, Managing Director France, TotalEnergies Charging Services.
“The installation of these 800 electric charge points is part of the strategy we’re implementing to give Lyon airport employees and visitors access to more sustainable, responsible mobility solutions. With the full commitment of VINCI Airports since 2016, this strategy consists in reducing both direct emissions from airport operations and indirect emissions. The latter relate primarily to airplane activity and passenger access. At the Lyon airport, for example, ground access accounts for 10% of the airport’s indirect emissions,” commented Tanguy Bertolus, Chairman of the Board, Aéroports de Lyon.
In France, TotalEnergies already operates more than 22,000 charge points, located on a street, in public or corporate parking lots, and at service stations. And as part of its strategy to deploy charging solutions across the country to support the rise of electric mobility, TotalEnergies has already equipped 200 service stations in France. Its aim is to reach 500 by 2026, of which:
- 200 stations on major roads (motorways and bypasses)
- 300 stations in cities, suburbs and transit areas (such as airports and train stations), a third of which will be 100% electric, like the Lyon Garibaldi station inaugurated in October 2023.
